The focus of this course is to explore different viewpoints on urban informality as a way to expand critical perspectives regarding both the interpretation of the problem and the search for solutions. The course brings together perspectives from the fields of sociology, urban planning, and legal studies to design a path from concept to practice.

In conceptual terms, the course seeks to move beyond stereotypical images of informal settlements and to incorporate their formal and functional multiplicity in their definition.

Prerequisite(s): understanding of the operation of land markets and the legal basies of land management policies.
