The Role of Forests in U.S. Climate Policy
Forest loss is part of the climate problem, but forest conservation is part of the solution. The comprehensive inclusion of domestic forests in national climate policy is essential to achieving the country’s goals to stabilize and reduce net emissions of carbon dioxide.
Private Conservation Easements
Private conservation easements have become a major factor in preservation efforts. With some modifications in their form and use, conservation easements can become an even more powerful vehicle to ensure natural preservation while serving the public interest.
Living in Slums
This study offers a new perspective on the location patterns and preferences of slum households. Underlying the family decision to live in a slum is an interest in increasing the probabilities of obtaining social housing more quickly and in a preferred district.
This issue looks at the importance of conserving U.S. forests in mitigating the effects of climate change; an overview of the achievements and obstacles of privately-held U.S. conservation easements; and the patterns and preferences of slum households and informal settlers in Santiago, Chile.
