Public Land for Public Good: Advancing Community Stewardship of Public Land

Junho 4, 2026 | 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. (EDT, UTC-4)

Across the country, communities are seeking to better steward—and leverage the value of—their publicly owned land. Local governments are establishing comprehensive, transparent inventories that enable coordinated planning and prioritize community-oriented uses of public land. Innovative partnerships among community-based and quasi-governmental organizations are activating underutilized public land to create vibrant, life-affirming green spaces, deeply affordable housing, nature-based solutions to climate risk, and centers for mutual aid and community connection. Understanding which plots of land are already publicly owned can accelerate community efforts to create the green space and affordable housing we need.

Join the Lincoln Institute and the Prevention Institute for an upcoming dialogue centered on strategies for supporting community stewardship of public land.
