Ron Rakow is the former Commissioner of the City of Boston Assessing Department, where he served from 1992 to January 2018. In Boston, Ron was responsible for determining the fair market value of over 160,000 parcels, raising over $2 billion annually. He previously served on the Board of the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority. Ron has recently served as the Chair of the Research Committee of the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) and was awarded that organization’s Donehoo Essay Award in 2013. Mr. Rakow holds a degree in economics from Boston University as well as a certificate in administration and management from Harvard University. He has been a frequent speaker on property tax and municipal finance issues to many groups including the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Massachusetts Municipal Association, the International and Massachusetts Associations of Assessing Officers, the Lincoln Institute, the Appraisal Institute, and the Boston Bar Association.
