Eric Hangen

Eric Hangen is senior advisor at the Center for Impact Finance, where he studies community development and climate finance in low-income communities. He has worked in community development for 30 years, including more than 20 years leading I Squared Community Development Consulting, a national boutique practice focused on community development finance, with clients including the Urban Institute, LISC, NeighborWorks America, the Center for Housing Policy, the Natural Resources Defense Council, and over 100 other affordable housing and community development finance organizations nationwide. He has provided strategic planning, business planning, and financial modeling services to dozens of CDFIs across the US and coauthored the first program evaluation of the CDFI Fund.

Throughout his career, Eric has promoted initiatives that bridge community development and climate mitigation, including helping launch home energy efficiency and solar programs in Vermont and Puerto Rico, leading development of the CIF–Inclusiv Green and Solar Lending Professional Training Program, and building training programs for the US Department of Energy’s Community Power Accelerator. He has served on the US EPA’s Environmental Finance Advisory Board and advised on the design of the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund.

Eric holds a master’s in public policy from Harvard University and a bachelor’s in environmental studies from Brown University.
