Scenario planning is structured decision making. It can be used to understand the interconnectivity or interdependency of various urban and rural systems, anticipate unintended consequences, or educate the public on tradeoffs.
The Lincoln Institute of Land Policy is working with a wide array of partners to create the Consortium for Scenario Planning, a new initiative to help prepare professionals in urban and rural areas for uncertain futures. The Consortium will expand understanding and capacity in Scenario Planning processes and software tools. The Consortium is the most recent of the Lincoln Institute's efforts to advance scenario planning as a best practice in land use planning and related fields, and will serve as a mechanism to align and reinforce activities undertaken by the Lincoln Institute and others.
