CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (September 15, 2017) — Indiana Tax Court Judge Martha Blood Wentworth has been recognized by her peers from across the United States as the Lawrence L. Lasser Tax Judge of the Year, an award presented annually by the National Conference of State Tax Judges.

A program of the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, the National Conference of State Tax Judges is an association of state tax judges from throughout the United States. The National Conference presents an annual award in honor of former Judge Lawrence L. Lasser, the Presiding Judge of the Tax Court of New Jersey and one of the founders of the National Conference. Lasser died in 1998.

“This award recognizes Marti Wentworth's many contributions to the field of state and local taxation and to the National Conference of State Tax Judges,” said Ellen Hoffman, conference chair and president of the New York City Tax Commission and Tax Appeals Tribunal, announcing the award at the 37th annual meeting of the National Conference this month.

More than 50 judges and members of tax appeal tribunals representing 22 states attended the annual meeting. Wentworth chaired a session on constitutional issues raised by retroactive tax legislation and participated in a panel on the appropriate standard of judicial deference to determinations by administrative agencies. She was also a member of the planning committee that developed the conference agenda.

The Lincoln Institute of Land Policy seeks to improve quality of life through the effective use, taxation, and stewardship of land. A nonprofit private operating foundation whose origins date to 1946, the Lincoln Institute researches and recommends creative approaches to land as a solution to economic, social, and environmental challenges. Through education, training, publications, and events, we integrate theory and practice to inform public policy decisions worldwide.
