Tailor Neighborhood Strategies to Market Conditions

Tailor Neighborhood Strategies to Market Conditions

Stabilize distressed neighborhoods, strengthen middle neighborhoods, and preserve affordability in strong neighborhoods
City governments, community development corporations, and their partners should act methodically and use data to help make decisions about where to deploy resources tailored to the condition of a given neighborhood. Distressed and middle neighborhoods pervade in nearly every legacy city, and it is essential to prevent further decline in these areas. In the smaller number of neighborhoods where real estate prices are high or rising—or where gentrification is likely in the near future—cities should act to preserve affordability as early as possible.

Data-Driven Approaches to Strengthening Neighborhoods

The Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System published “Putting Data to Work: Data-Driven Approaches to Strengthening Neighborhoods” to highlight successful uses of data in neighborhood revitalization efforts. This tool will prove useful to local leaders who are looking for ways to use data to perform market analyses and address disinvested neighborhoods.

Local Foods, Local Places Toolkit

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency created this toolkit to share best practices and lessons learned from the Local Foods, Local Places program, which helps communities develop and grow local food systems. Practitioners can use this toolkit to help their community clearly identify its goals, engage stakeholders, and prioritize achievable actions to enact the plan.

Startup Community Land Trust Hub

This online toolkit from the Grounded Solutions Network provides practitioners with resources to create a successful community land trust. It can help local leaders ask the right questions and form their own roadmaps for success.
