Arizona's State Trust Land Reform

wildflowers near Picaccho PeakConserving Arizona’s Future, Prop 106 – a citizens’ ballot initiative to reform state trust land management in Arizona – did not prevail with the voters in November 2006.

Supported by a broad coalition of teachers, business leaders, homeowners, outdoorsman, ranchers, Republican and Democratic elected officials, and conservationists, the measure would have amended Article X of Arizona’s constitution relating to the management of state trust lands by the Arizona State Land Department (ASLD).

The initiative would have protected 694,000 acres of state trust lands, allowed local communities to better balance growth and conservation, and protected vital funding for schools.
