|---|---|
| Current Land Holdings | 76,000 surface acres (.76 percent of original land grant of 10 million acres) |
| Uses | forest land including timber sales and conservation, as well as hunting, fishing, trapping, protection of water quality and biological diversity, aesthetics and outdoor recreation |
| Primary Revenue Source | primarily for renewable forest products, sale of lands to other governmental agencies to be included in county, state and national forests |
| Trust Requirements | Lands are held in trust pursuant to the state enabling act and state constitution. Nearly all of the Trust Lands were sold over 100 years ago. The proceeds were used to establish the Trust Funds, which continue to grow with revenue from unclaimed property, clear proceeds of civil and criminal fees, fines and forfeitures, and modest revenue from the remaining managed forest lands. Currently the agency is actively managing its lands for sustained yield timber production. Lands are managed by the Wisconsin Board of Commissioners of Public Lands which includes the Secretary of State, Attorney General, and State Treasurer. |
