Current Land Holdings 20.3 million surface and mineral right acres (48.3 percent of original land grant of 42 million acres)

Trust Requirements Lands are held in trust pursuant to the state enabling act and state constitution. Lands are managed by the Texas General Land Office under the direction of a state land commissioner who is an elected official. Moreover, there is a School Land board comprised of the commissioner and two additional members.
