Current Land Holdings 803,000 surface acres (23 percent of original land grant of 3.5 million acres); 5.2 million subsurface acres (added after original grant)
Uses agriculture, grazing, oil, gas, sand and gravel
Primary Revenue Source oil and gas leases
Trust Requirements Lands are held in trust pursuant to the state enabling act and state constitution. Office of the Commissioner of School and Public Lands established to manage these lands under the direction of an elected commissioner. School Lands are leased at public auctions for grazing and agricultural purposes with lease terms of five years with a renewable five-year option. Lease rates are set by statutory regulation.
