Current Land Holdings 2.5 million surface acres; 1 million acres severed mineral rights (30.8 percent of original land grant of 8.1 million acres) original grant of 2.9 was increased by additional swamp grant and internal improvement grants of 4.7 million and 500,000 acres respectively

Trust Requirements Lands are held in trust pursuant to the state enabling act and state constitution. Lands are managed by the Department of Natural Resources division of Land and Minerals under the leadership of a director who is appointed by the Commissioner of the DNR. The State Permanent School Fund Advisory Committee, established by the Legislature, advises the DNR on the management of school trust land for the benefit of the school districts of the State
