Negotiation & Mediation

Welcome to the Negotiation and Mediation Skills Toolbox section of Community Lots, the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy’s information source for community-based organizations (CBOs). This section provides information for CBOs that are interested in enhancing their negotiation and mediation skills, and want to learn more about these skills for their land development projects and policies in their communities.

These skills will help CBOs to work effectively in environments where conflict exists as well as strategies and skills for negotiating in order to avert or reduce conflict. In addition, these tools are meant to assist CBOs in their development practice with conflict resolution tools, techniques, and planning mechanisms. To do this, the project is collaborating with the Consensus Building Institute to develop training materials and workshops that are designed for CBOs.

This site also sponsors a Forum for “peer-to-peer” exchange that allows users to post questions and obtain answers from others who are involved with or have experienced community development disputes.
