A fine-looking gift horse having been given to Polk County by Floyd Countians in the form of a new hospital that will probably be valued at $30 million-$45 million when built and equipped, it would be most wise for the Floyd County Commission to closely look into the mouth of this health-care stallion born in its own pasture. In particular, there’s one gold tooth encrusted with diamonds that warrants close examination. It involves Floyd Medical Center making a “PILOT” agreement with the Polk County Hospital Authority to clinch the deal. No, no ... that’s not bad. It’s great! Sure, this is set up as something of a sham but it is a great precedent. Perhaps having a PILOT of Floyd’s own could be considered a stud fee.
