   CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (July 17, 2010) -- Thomas Nechyba, professor of economics and public policy studies at Duke University, has joined the board of the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy.
   Nechyba served as director of undergraduate studies (2000-2003) and department chair (2003-2009) at Duke University. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Rochester in 1994 and began his academic career on the economics faculty at Stanford University.
   "We are so pleased to have an economist and scholar of Tom’s caliber to join our endeavors," said board chair Kathryn J. Lincoln. "He will bring insight and wisdom on the issues of the day.” 
   His honors include the President’s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching at the University of Rochester, the Dean’s Award for Distinguished Teaching at Stanford, the Teacher/Scholar Award at Duke, and the Kenneth Elzinga Distinguished Teaching Award from the Southern Economic Association.
   A leading researcher in the area of public economics, particularly the economics of education, fiscal federalism, and urban economics, he has published widely in top economics journals. He is a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), and has held visiting positions at the University of Munich and the Fundacio Getulio Vargas in Rio de Janeiro.
    The other members of the board of directors of the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy include former Interior secretary and Arizona governor Bruce Babbitt; Roy Bahl, professor of economics and director of the Policy Research Center at Georgia. State University; Thomas M. Becker, president of The Chautauqua Institution; Henry A. Coleman, professor at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University; Gary Cornia, dean of the Marriott School of Management at Brigham Young University; Alberto Harth, president of Civitas in San Salvador, El Salvador; Gregory K. Ingram, president, Lincoln Institute of Land Policy; Bruce Lincoln of Phoenix, Arizona; David C. Lincoln, president of VIKA Corp. and chairman of the Lincoln Laser Company; John G. Lincoln III, senior engineer at CH2M-Hill in Boise, Idaho; Kenneth T.W. Pang, adjunct professor at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University; Andrea Taylor, director of community affairs, North America, Microsoft Corporation; Douglas P. Wheeler, partner at Hogan & Hartson in Washington, D.C.; and Carol Whiteside, president emeritus of the Great Valley Center in Modesto, California.
