The Role of Urban Universities in Real Estate Development

Start Date:
End Date: December 2002

Researchers
Ziona Austrian, The Urban Center, Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs, Cleveland State University

Description
Five case studies of universities across the United States, outside of Ohio. It is expected that separate funding sources will support a survey of universities in Northeast Ohio, university case studies in Ohio, and other U.S. university case studies to complement the Lincoln Institute-supported research. We ask that you discuss the location of the five case studies with Roz in order that the five are unique from other Lincoln-sponsored cases. The research will use a common methodology for case selection and investigation across all cases and will address the following issues regarding university involvement in real estate activities: Motivation; Strategy and decision processes; Development mechanisms and financial tools; Impact on communities; Lessons; Policy Implications.
