Regional Planning in America

Planning, Portland State University

Description
This program brings together invited scholars, practitioners,
and policy makers to help assess the state of regional
planning in the United States and its prospects for the
future. Of particular interest are the issues associated with
sustainable development and the important role that must
be played by planning efforts reaching across institutional
and jurisdictional boundaries. Though regional planning
has an important history in this country, its accomplishments
are less certain. However, due to the importance of
effective regional planning for achieving local, regional,
national, and global goals for sustainability, this is an
important time to assess the state of the art and to identify
new directions for both research and practice. The papers
developed for a symposium will be incorporated into an
edited volume.
