Research Projects

Crown of the Continent

Start Date:
End Date:

Researchers
Peter Pollock, Lincoln Institute of Land Policy; and
Matthew J. McKinney, Center for Natural Resources
and Environmental Policy

Description
This project is designed to develop and test innovative
approaches to large-scale landscape conservation. The
Crown of the Continent—a 10-million-acre, mixed-ownership
landscape on the US/Canada border—serves as an
ideal laboratory for this hands-on work. It is an ecologically
intact landscape that can integrate multiple interests,
including but not limited to public resource managers,
private landowners, Native Americans and First Nations,
researchers, educators, conservation advocates, and local
communities. The joint venture partnership will continue
to convene a multi-stakeholder roundtable to develop
and implement strategies to advance both economic and
environmental outcomes in the region.
