Study of Urban Sprawl

Start Date:
End Date: December 2002

Researchers
Thomas J. Nechyba, Department Economics, Duke University

Description
Urban Sprawl is a contentious and divisive issue in American political discourse, yet few have taken a systematic look at the sources and implications of sprawl. This project attempts to arrive at a sensible definition of sprawl, to formulate a conceptual model that helps to analyze it, and to summarize what we have learned as well as what remains to be learned for informed policy debates to become productive.
